The Coble Family Fundraiser
Our Goal: $2500:raised $1675
Wednesday, December 20, 2017 was the day our lives changed forever at the sound of a few unassuming letters - C.D.H. We were taking a peek at our precious baby in order to share the gender with our family for Christmas. A season of joy and excitement was quickly turned to one of fear and anxiety. How could this be happening? Our baby boy was suffering a life threatening condition that would affect his ability to breathe, left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The doctors didn't give Greyson much of a chance and offered us termination of pregnancy at three different times. We were not giving up that easy and after nights of no sleep and searching the internet we found several photos of smiling, healthy CDH babies sporting the hashtags #Kayskids, #tinyhero. Another CDH mom, Celeste, along with Annie from Tiny Heroes shared their stories and gave us hope. After speaking with them and countless hours of research, we determined that St Petersburg, Florida and Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital was the place for our growing family. At JHACH, Dr Kays and his team carefully diagnosed the severity of Greyson's condition, and gave us 95-97% odds of survival. On May 2, 2018, we welcomed our miracle baby into the world. He went on ECMO within 2 hours, surgery on day 2, and spent 69 days total in the hospital. We are so in love with our tiny hero!
WHY TINY HERO?
Tiny Hero stands out as a great resource for families experiencing the most scary moments of their lives. The support and resources they provide to the CDH community is second to none. When we were lost in our sorrow, and scared for our son’s life, Annie from Tiny Hero took time from her vacation to speak with us and assure us that there was a chance! Donating to Tiny Hero could literally change the lives of dozens of moms, dads, sisters, and brothers who are just looking for a glimpse of hope!

What is CDH?
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) occurs in an unborn baby when there is a hole in, or incomplete formation of, the diaphragm (the muscle under the lungs that is responsible for breathing).
CDH affects about one in every 2,500 babies (1600 cases in the U.S. each year), and occurs as often as cystic fibrosis and spina bifida, yet most have never heard of it. On average, only 50% of these babies survive. Learn more about what is CDH→
