The Fawbush Family Fundraiser

Our Goal: $500 : raised $25

When we found out we were expecting our first little girl we were beyond excited. I cried when the nurse said, "It's a girl!" My mind was racing with thoughts of bows and dresses and the girly quilt I would finally have a reason to sew. My boys were so happy at the thought of a little sister. They didn't know what a sister would be like, but they knew they wanted one! They started suggesting names like Bob and Mike, but eventually agreed that Eleanor was much prettier and would be alright. When we found out Eleanor had CDH at our 20 week scan, I was devastated. I'll never forget the look on my doctor's face when she said to go home and start grieving for the loss of my daughter, that she wouldn’t make it. I tried to get another opinion and two leading hospitals in my area both said she wouldnt make it and would only offer comfort care at birth until she passed. I cried until there wasn’t another tear left in my body, and then I cried some more. I started researching CDH because I just couldn't accept that my little girl would not be coming home in my arms. I could feel her strong kicks, her little hiccups. There was just no way it could be true. And then I found Tiny Hero. I found love, support, answers, understanding... I found hope. They helped me make sense of it all and gave me the tools I needed to find my daughter the best care I could. Thankfully our story has a happy ending and Eleanor came home in my arms. Thanks to Tiny Hero.

When I thought that I was going to lose Eleanor, Tiny Hero showed me that there was still hope for her and our family. If it wasn't for their support, there is a good chance our story would have ended much differently. Donating to Tiny Hero will help other families like mine find the hope, support, and tools needed to give their child the best care and chance at survival they deserve. Tiny Hero is making a real and immediate impact on the CDH community and is an amazing network of people doing their best to save these children's lives. I will forever be grateful they helped me save my Eleanor.

What is CDH?

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) occurs in an unborn baby when there is a hole in, or incomplete formation of, the diaphragm (the muscle under the lungs that is responsible for breathing).

CDH affects about one in every 2,500 babies (1600 cases in the U.S. each year), and occurs as often as cystic fibrosis and spina bifida, yet most have never heard of it. On average, only 50% of these babies survive. Learn more about what is CDH→
